Hi! Welcome to OT Respect. This is a resource for occupational therapy students to learn about incivility in clinical settings. Incivility is what happens when people don’t treat each other with respect. Uncivil behaviors are rude and unkind, but are not necessarily meant to be harmful. This site contains short lessons about types of incivility, how it can affect a person, and some real-world examples. Although you may not see or experience incivility during your fieldwork, it is helpful to recognize these behaviors and begin to get comfortable with knowing how to respond if they happen. You will learn more about having a conversation about incivility, especially how you can start that conversation. The last lesson discusses tips for your well-being during fieldwork that you can carry with you as you start your career.
