Jordan is in their sixth week of fieldwork in subacute rehab and is helping to prepare a patient for discharge home tomorrow. Jordan received a phone call from the vendor they had contacted to supply the patient’s wheelchair and commode for home. The vendor apologetically told Jordan she was putting the order together at the last minute before realizing the company doesn’t work with the patient’s insurance. Jordan immediately texted their CI about the situation and went to see if social worker could help them resolve the issue. On the way to the discharge planning office, Jordan’s CI stopped them at the nurse’s station and raised her voice at Jordan, saying, “What are you going to do? The patient is supposed to go home tomorrow! You need to figure this out NOW!” Jordan took a step back and quietly shared their plan to talk to the social worker. Jordan was enjoying fieldwork and thought they had a good relationship with their CI. As much as they didn’t want to talk about what happened, there was no way to move forward while pretending everything was fine. Jordan has chosen a safe time and place to bring up their concerns.
